Capturing the Beauty of Wild Flowers and Insects: A Close-Up Photography Journey

As amateur photographer, I am always looking for new projects and opportunity to develop my skills without having to travel too far from home.

Last weekend I brought my camera with me during our walks in the fields and at the allotment as there were some opportunities for shooting some nice pictures of flowers and insects.

I am always amazed by the variety of Wilde flowers in the fields and some cultivated ones that have some amazing colours and shapes. We saw a significant decline in insects. There are barely any butterflies this year. But few flowers attracted the bees like magnet. I was pleased to be able to shoot them in a very sharp close-up thanks to the exceptional autofocus on my camera (in servo focus mode).

Complex shapes and colours are always attracting my eyes and I was not disappointed. Even the most simple wild chamomile flowers in the field or the borage flowers had some interesting patterns to look at when shot at close-up. There are plenty of details and nuances in these images.

The shots with the bees sucking the flowers nectar were the height of the photography walk. I love them!

These images encouraged me to continue exploring nature close-ups and next time I will be trying my the RF 100 f2.8 macro lens. So watch this space and subscribe to my newsletter to get updates.

Shot with Canon EOS R6 Mark II and lens RF 24-105 f4. Most images shot at 105mm focus.
